In Memoriam: Joseph S. Granato

The resident of Rocky Hill passed away Nov. 30 at the age of 95.

Joseph S. Granato, 95, of Rocky Hill and formerly of Wethersfield, loving husband for 65 years of the late Laura (DiPietro) Granato, died peacefully, Monday, November 30, 2015.

He was born March 2, 1920 in Hartford and was the son of the late Joseph and Vincenzina (Neglia) Granato.

He was a graduate of Bulkeley High School, class of 1938. He was a proud U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, serving during WWII. Joe owned and operated Marco Polo Restaurant on Burnside Avenue in East Hartford for over 50 years, retiring several years ago. He was a former longtime parishioner of Corpus Christi Church, Wethersfield and a member of UNICO National, Hartford Chapter. He was also an avid golfer and a member of Wethersfield Country Club for many years.

A loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Joe will be dearly missed by his three children, Ginny Carpino and husband John, Joseph M. Granato and Maryann Granato, all of Glastonbury; two adored grandchildren, Amy Lazzaro and husband Anthony of Glastonbury and John Carpino and wife Marie of Madison and four cherished great-grandchildren, Julia, Katherine, Jack and Elle. He is also survived by his beloved sister, Florence Intravia of Rocky Hill; brother, Frank Granato; nephews and nieces, Joann DiMarco, Barbara French, Sylvia DiPietro, Robert DiPietro, as well as James and Robert Intravia, who were like sons to him.

Calling hours are Thursday from 8:30-11 a.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 noon at Holy Trinity Church, 53 Capitol Avenue, Hartford. The burial will be in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield with military honors.

A very special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff on the 7th Floor at Middlesex Hospital for the care, love and compassion shown to Joe and his family during his illness.
