Rocky Hill Fire Department Battles Structure Fire Sunday

ROCKY HILL, CT — The Rocky Hill Fire Department (RHFD) responded to a structure fire at 11 Laurel Road on Sunday.

The call came in at 9:02 a.m., with fire personnel arriving on the scene at 9:05 a.m. Firefighters saw heavy smoke emanating from the front and side of a commercial structure constructed of masonry.

Upon arrival, it was determined that no occupants were present inside the building. Firefighters utilized forcible entry to gain access to the interior and immediately began a fire attack. Water supply efforts faced an initial challenge as the first fire hydrant was found to be frozen. Additional hydrants were subsequently accessed to ensure an adequate water supply for suppression efforts.

To maintain town coverage during the incident, Task Force 51 was requested. This task force included members from the Berlin, Cromwell, Newington, and Wethersfield fire departments. These mutual aid companies were dispatched to a secondary incident on the Silas Deane Highway while the RHFD remained at the Laurel Road structure fire.

The fire on Laurel Road was brought under control and knocked down at 9:25 a.m. During the duration of the call, parts of Dividend Road were closed to traffic by the RHFD Fire Police and the Rocky Hill Police Department to ensure public safety.

No injuries to first responders were reported during the incident. The fire marshal’s office was requested to the scene to conduct an investigation into the cause of the fire.
