In Memoriam: Lorraine H. Pratt

Lorraine Hazel (Watrous) Pratt, 89, of Rocky Hill and formerly of Wethersfield and Madison, passed away comfortably at her home on Saturday, February 6, 2016.

Born in Hartford on September 18, 1926, a daughter of the late Carlyle and Dorothy (Plummer) Watrous, she had resided in the Hartford/Wethersfield area for many years prior to moving to Madison over 25 years ago.

Lorraine was a graduate of Hartford Public High School, Class of 1944 and Hillyer College in Hartford. She was a former Executive Secretary for over 20 years at Aetna Insurance Company in Hartford.

Lorraine was an avid gardener and was a member of the Wethersfield Garden Club and Madison Garden Club. She was very artistic and was a talented decorator and floral arranger who also stenciled many items in her home and the homes of other family members. She also loved to paint, draw, play Bridge, play tennis and was an admirer of colonial history as well as an animal lover. Her cats Jesse and Ruby brought her great joy.

Lorraine is survived by her daughter, Pamela Porter McGraw and her husband James A. McGraw, of Grantham, NH and formerly of Madison; her son, Perry Kingsbury Pratt and his wife Nora Lee Pratt, of Higganum; five cherished grandchildren, Elizabeth Porter McGraw of Boynton Beach, FL, James “Jake” McGraw of Boston, MA, Kelsey White and husband Ruairi, of Natick, MA, Perry K. Pratt, Jr. of Boston, MA, Allyson Lee Pratt and her fiancé, Nicholas Alfera of Mystic; nieces, Ann and Linda Merwin, Carol (Pratt) Gould and nephews, David Merwin and Colonel Tim Pratt, as well as many dear friends.

Besides her parents, Lorraine was predeceased by her husband, Porter Wells Pratt.

Funeral service will be Thursday (February 11) at 11 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 300 Main St., Wethersfield. Private burial will be held at the convenience of the family at Village Cemetery, Wethersfield. There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Lorraine’s name may be made to the Forgotten Felines, 153 Horse Hill Rd., Westbrook CT 06498.
