Rocky Hill Refrigerant Leak Shuttered Stop & Shop Friday

State environmental protection officials responded to the scene.

ROCKY HILL, CT — A local Stop & Shop supermarket had to be evacuated Friday evening because of a refrigerant leak, according to the fire department.

Firefighters were summoned to the 80 Town Line Rd. supermarket at 7:40 p.m. on Jan. 31, according to Fire Chief Michael P. Garrahy.

No one was injured, Garrahy said. The fire department evacuated the store and contacted the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, which also responded to contain the leak.

The leak was under control at 9:33 p.m., according to Garrahy. Officials ventilated the building and cleared the scene around 11:20 p.m. Friday.
