Tanker Truck Carrying 2,000 Gallons Of Cooking Oil Rolls Over On I-91 In Rocky Hill
The tanker truck rolled over on I-91 in Rocky Hill, according to police.
ROCKY HILL, CT — A tanker carrying 2,000 gallons of waste cooking oil rolled over on I-91 in Rocky Hill on Friday morning, according to police.
The Rocky Hill Fire Department responded around 11:25 a.m. on Sept. 5 to I-91 South between Exits 22 and 23 on the report of a crash involving a tanker truck that had rolled over and was leaking fluids, according to police.
Police said arriving crews found a tanker loaded with 2,000 gallons of waste cooking oil on its side next to the highway.

“The tanker was leaking a small amount of the waste oil and had a small hole in its fuel tank leaking diesel fuel,” police wrote in a news release. “The driver had self-extricated from the vehicle and had sustained non-life-threating injuries.”
Firefighters blocked the area and closed the right and breakdown lanes for the incident to “keep all working at the scene safe,” according to police.

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) was notified and the Connecticut Department of Transportation also responded to the scene.
Police said there was no environmental impact, and no injuries to any of the first responders.
