Tractor-Trailer Goes Up In Flames, Closes Highway, Firefighter Injured

ROCKY HILL, CT — A highway was closed and a firefighter suffered an injury in a tractor-trailer blaze on I-91 on Monday night, according to the Rocky Hill Fire Department.

Firefighters responded at 9:34 p.m. on a report of a tractor-trailer fire on I-91 southbound just south of the exit 23 on-ramp.

Firefighters arrived to find a fully involved fire with the driver out of the vehicle. Firefighters used a fire suppression agent and called in mutual aid from other area fire departments.

State police shut down the highway while crews worked to extinguish the fire.

The truck had been carrying refrigerated foods.

The driver was not injured. A firefighter suffered a minor injury. The firefighter was treated by medics at the scene and released.

It took two hours for firefighters to clear the scene. State police then reopened one lane of the highway.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
