Woman Rescued After Falling Through Ice in Rocky Hill

A witness on shore saw the woman fall into the Connecticut River and called 911.

ROCKY HILL, CT — A woman was rescued Tuesday morning after she walked out onto the ice-covered Connecticut River and fell into the water, emergency officials said.

Police received a 911 call at 9:06 a.m. from a witness at Ferry Park at 315 Meadow Rd.

When police arrived, the woman was about 100 feet from the shore and clinging to the edge of a hole in the ice, officials said.

Fire crews brought the woman to safety within six minutes of arriving at the scene. The woman, who officials did not identify, was transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Fire Chief Michael P. Garrahy said the woman was conscious and alert when she was transported.

According to Garrahy, the witness saw the woman walk out onto the ice and fall through about 100 feet from the Rocky Hill boat launch, and immediately called 911.

Garrahy estimated the woman was in the water "no more than 15 minutes."
