'A Tax Decrease for Every Taxpayer'
A press release from Thomas Taylor, administrative assistant for the city of Shelton

In spite of the most difficult economic times, there is good financial and economic news to report for our city largely due to our management policy of not spending beyond our means. This good news was recently recognized by "Bloomberg Businessweek" where, for the last two years, Shelton was recognized as the "Best Affordable Suburbs in America" for Connecticut.
Many other cities, the State of Connecticut, and the Federal Government have reported negative news with huge deficits and talks across the board tax hikes. That is bad news for all taxpayers. While here in Shelton, our net taxable Grand List, as of Oct. 1, 2010 increased by over $44.5 million due to a continuation of Shelton's economic growth. This increase will provide approximately $837,000 in new tax dollars that will help our taxpayers through the difficult economic times.
The mill rate will go from 18.57 mills down to 18.57 mills. The 2011 - 2012 budget is based on a revenue projection of $112,116,632 with $111,913,313 of expenditures. Therefore, the mayor of Shelton, Mark A. Lauretti, is propsing a tax decrease for every taxpayer.
