Superintendent Freeman Burr identified seven key areas to be included in the Public Schools 2014 Strategic Plan
The unveiled details concerning beginning stages of the Shelton Public Schools 2014 Strategic Plan last night, May 25, at its monthly meeting.
Superintendent Freeman Burr described the Plan as an outline for the public school system to abide by and a guidance resource for improvement in the ways schools function.
The 2014 Plan is somewhat overdue. "It's been five years since Shelton had a new strategic plan put in place," Burr said.

He announced to the Board that the first draft of the Plan identifies seven areas of prime importance, each to be overseen by a small committee:
- affective teaching
- affective leadership
- accountability
- technology integration
- building partnerships
- internal and external communications
- finance and building maintenance operations
"Our plan is to take this first draft, let the Board members look it over, take their suggestions, then revise it and hopefully bring it back to the table by our July meeting for approval," Burr said.

The Board members will have a chance to read and review all sections of the draft, as well as consider the goals and objectives proposed by each sub-committee.
"We have at least two goals in each of the areas, along with activities, and we welcome your feedback," Burr said.
Because the "intensity of the document" would take too much time to discuss at a regular Board meeting, Burr recommended scheduling a special meeting to review the draft in the end of June or early July. The date for this meeting will be determined in coming days.
"We all have homework to do once we get the document," Chairwoman Arlene Liscinsky said.
