Man Raids Car at Shelton Veterinary Center

The following information was provided by Lt. Robert Kozlowsky of the Shelton Police Department. It does not indicate convictions.

On November 1 at approximately 8 p.m., Officer Chris Nugent was patrolling the area of Bridgeport Avenue when he observed a male looking into vehicle windows at (895 Bridgeport Ave.)

Upon seeing the officer, the male ran into a vehicle and began to drive away. Officer Nugent activated his lights and sirens, but the male operator would not pull over. Officer Nugent followed the vehicle on Route 8 south. The vehicle struck a guardrail at the exit 5 off ramp and became disabled. The male then took off running and was shortly apprehended by Bridgeport Officers.

determined that a vehicle was broken into at the Shoreline Veterinary Hospital and a laptop, wallet and camera were taken. All the items were later recovered by police.

The male identified as 44-year-old Jimmie Bennett, of Bishop Avenue in Bridgeport, was placed under arrest and charged with:

  • Second degree criminal mischief,
  • fifth degree larceny,
  • third degree burglary,
  • possession of burglary tools,
  • tampering with a motor vehicle,
  • reckless driving, and
  • engaging police in pursuit.

Bennett was released after posting a $50,000 bond and given a court date of November 14 at State superior court in Derby.
