Derby Fire Promotes New Chief, Swears In New Members
The Derby Fire Department recently held a promotion and swearing-in ceremony, during which a new chief and other new members were sworn in.
DERBY, CT — The Derby Fire Department held a promotion and swearing-in ceremony over the weekend, during which a new chief and other new members were sworn in, according to the department.
In a Facebook post, fire officials said the ceremony was held Saturday morning at Derby Middle School.
Thomas Biggs, a member of the Paugassett Hook & Ladder Company No. 4, was promoted to chief of the department while Louis Oliwa of the Derby East End Hose Company 3 was promoted to first assistant chief, fire officials said.

Additionally, Jesse Marino from Storm Engine Co./Ambulance Corps Co. 2 was promoted to second assistant chief and Sean Fitch from Hotchkiss Hose Co. 1 was sworn in as third assistant chief.
Daniel Mascolo was also sworn in as safety officer and Father Jeffrey Gubbiotti, a pastor at Our Lady Queen of the Apostles Parish in Derby, was sworn in as department chaplain, according to fire officials.

The department also noted all four companies in Derby are currently accepting members and encouraged those interested in applying to do so here or to contact one of the fire companies.
