A schedule of and what to expect at this week's municipal meetings, as well as a recap of events from last week. Check back for updates throughout the week as schedules and agenda items for each meeting come in.

March 7 - 13

TUESDAY

  • Water Pollution Control Authority: 3 - 6 p.m., city hall room 104

A special meeting is being held solely to discuss the 2011-2012 budget and how it affects the WPCA.

  • Planning & Zoning Commission: 7 p.m., city hall room 104
  • Board of Apportionment & Taxation - Budget Sessions: 7 p.m., city hall auditorium

The first of three meetings to be held this week where department chairs will get the chance to ask questions about the mayor's . Chairman Mark S. Holden said members will be available to "clear up any misunderstandings and any issues a department has with changes the mayor made to their requests."

WEDNESDAY

  • Board of Apportionment & Taxation - Budget Sessions: 7 p.m., city hall auditorium

On the topic of Aspetuck Village Condominium Community, Chairman Mike DeAngelis has previously said: "They want us to help take over the private collections system -- the sanitary sewer system."

THURSDAY

  • Board of Apportionment & Taxation - Finance Committee: 6:30 p.m., city hall room 104

Open bids from companies and contractors on the following will be announced and evaluated: Fairmont Place sanitary sewer extension, printing/distribution of Shelton life newsletter, maintenance and repair of HVAC equipment for the WPCA, and communication equipment upgrades for the police department. Committee member Judson Crawford said that these meetings "don't often get an audience," as the agenda items are then passed of to other departments for approval.

  • Board of Aldermen – Full Board: 7 p.m., city hall auditorium

The Street Committee will make a request to rename a portion of Old Kings Highway, as Chairman Eric McPherson had said at last week's Street Committee meeting.

  • Animal Shelter Building Committee: 7 p.m., city hall room 305

Last month's meeting was canceled, but Animal Control Officer Sheryl Taylor previousl said she "expects that the location and construction of a second Shelton animal shelter will be discussed." At the December meeting, several issues were settled and the committe members seemed pleased with their progress. After making changes to the garage area and office area, the cat room will have more space and windows, while the garage area will not be better for loading and unloading animals.

FRIDAY

Feb. 28 - March 6 [Recap]

A new sport may be coming to Shelton! The Conservation Commission talked about building a disc golf course in the city. Read about what disc golf is and what the Commission's early plans are .

Thomas Taylor, administrative assistant for the city, sent out a press release of "good financial and economic news," including the announcement of lower taxes for all residents. Read the press release .

The Board of Aldermen Street Committee once again brought up the topic of road repairs. "As soon as we've got the weather working for us, we will address it," said Paul DiMauro, Director of Public Works. "We will be evaluating, but it's overwhelming right now with the weather." The Committee is also in the beginning stages of writing a winter parking restrictions ordinance. Story .
