New Haven Symphony Orchestra Announces Shelton Concert Season
The NHSO will present five shows in Shelton for the 2011-2012 season. There are Fall 2011 dates and Spring 2012 dates.
The New Haven Symphony Orchestra (NHSO), Music Director William Boughton, and Associate Conductor Gerald Steichen are pleased to announce the 2011-12 Shelton Concert Season.
Music Director William Boughton will present a two-concert Mozart Series at . The genius of Mozart will be highlighted throughout the season with concertos for clarinet, flute and harp. The NHSO will also welcome outstanding soloists to the season, including familiar faces from the NHSO: Clarinetist David Shifrin, flutist Adrianne Greenbaum, and harpist Jennifer Hoult.
Just off an ASCAP Award win for adventurous programming of contemporary music, the NHSO will present works by contemporary composers and Yale University professors Christopher Theofanidis and Aaron Jay Kernis this season. Theofanidis has been described by the Baltimore Sun as “an unusually skilled, communicative composer,” and The New York Times describes Kernis as having “fearless originality and [a] powerful voice.”

The NHSO Pops! Series celebrates a milestone this year: the fifteenth anniversary with Associate Conductor Gerald Steichen at the helm. The season kicks off with a fitting tribute to Jerry’s personal journey—Broadway Bound: from Oklahoma! to Rent. As always the Holiday Extravaganza, featuring special guests Elm City Girls’ Choir, will light up your holiday season. Finally, we’ll take you on a trip to the southern hemisphere with The Road to Rio!
