Prominent Grocery Store Undergoing Major Renovation Project In Derby

The updates will introduce a fresh store design and expanded departments; a grand reopening celebration will be held when work is complete.

DERBY, CT — Renovations are currently underway at the ShopRite grocery store on Pershing Drive in Derby as the business receives a number of major upgrades.

Tom Cingari Jr., who serves as vice president of Cingari Family Markets, the family-owned Connecticut supermarket company that operates ShopRite, said work on the Derby store officially began back in February.

Once finished, the updates will introduce a fresh, contemporary store design, along with expanded departments and upgraded amenities to provide customers with greater convenience, variety and an elevated shopping experience, according to additional press materials provided by the company.

"We're installing advanced refrigeration and freezer systems designed to lower energy use and improve product freshness at the Derby store," Cingari said to Patch. "In addition, shelving throughout the store will feature energy-efficient lighting to enhance visibility."

The renovations in Derby will also include updates to the store's floral section, a refreshed produce department with an expanded variety of locally sourced and organic fruits and vegetables and enhancements across the bakery, seafood, deli, meat and dairy departments, Cingari said.

Other planned upgrades include expanded grab-and-go meal options that will introduce a greater variety of fresh, ready-to-eat selections to the store, including premium take-and-bake seafood, marinated meats and gourmet-prepared entrées designed for convenience without sacrificing quality, according to the company.

Construction is now underway in Derby and is expected to wrap up by late spring, however the store will remain open throughout the renovation as work primarily takes place overnight to minimize disruptions.

A grand reopening celebration will be held when the renovation is complete.

"We're really excited to unveil the store's refreshed, modern design," Cingari said. "It has a clean, contemporary feel that we think customers will love. We're also very excited to roll out a greatly enhanced prepared foods department with double the selection of cold prepared entrees and sides. We will also be featuring a new hot prepared food bar open for lunch and dinner daily."

Cingari also noted Derby as a community is a perfect fit for both ShopRite and Cingari Family Markets as a company.

"With Derby’s close-knit community of families and working professionals, there's a clear demand for high-quality, fresh food options close to home," Cingari said. "Cingari Family Markets' ShopRite of Derby not only supports local access to quality products, including fresh and organic choices, but also creates jobs and contributes to the local economy."

The Derby renovation is part of Cingari Family Markets' broader initiative to modernize and enhance all of its stores across Connecticut, ensuring that each location continues to meet the evolving needs of its customers.

The company recently introduced major upgrades to its flagship Norwalk store, as well as stores in Stamford and Brookfield. Renovations are also currently underway at the company's Danbury store.

Family-owned and operated for over 90 years, Cingari Family Markets owns 10 ShopRites and two Cingari Family Markets in southwestern Connecticut.

"We're constantly keeping an eye on consumer trends to ensure our stores evolve with the changing shopping experience," Cingari said. "We've already renovated half of our locations, and we're continuing that effort across the rest of our stores to better meet the expectations and needs of today's customers."
