Sergeant Orville Remembered, Honored in D.C.

A contingent of Officers joined cops from around the world this past weekend to honor fallen law enforcement officers, including Shelton Sergeant Orville Smith, at Washington D.C. Officer Kevin Sherman successfully rode his bicycle from New Jersey to D.C. in honor of Sgt. Smith as part of the police unity tour.

Approximately 15 Shelton officers arrived in D.C. on Friday for the 23rd Annual Candlelight Vigil. On Sunday, May 15, officers attended a memorial service outside of the U.S. Capitol Building. Detective Ben Trabka served as the memorial escort officer for Smith’s family in that service.

Smith was killed this in July 2010 after his cruiser was struck on Route 110 while directing trffic after a private fireworks event.
