Shelton Community Lion's Club First Annual Easter Basket Collection
The following letter was submitted by Ann Walsh of the Lion's Club.

Dear Editor:
The Shelton Community Lion’s Club conducted their First Annual Easter Basket food drive that began on March 26 and ended March 29th. We collected enough food to make up Easter baskets for 15 needy Shelton families. Food items collected consisted of canned hams, canned peas, beans, corn, instant potatoes, coffee, sugar and many other items needed for a full holiday meal.
We would like to first thank the generosity of the people of Shelton for all their donations. We could not have been so successful without everyone’s kindness. We would like to thank both IGA/Adams and Beechwood supermarkets for letting us stand outside their businesses to solicit food donations. We would also like to thank the Shelton High School DECA program & Crosby Commons who helped us collect food stuff to aid in this effort.

We asked 5 local charities to give us 10 names of families in Shelton that needed a little extra help in these tough times. We ended up being able to provide 15 families with a basket from all the donations. Any cash donations were transferred into gift cards for either IGA or Beechwood and will be given to the families with the food. Then we packaged up all the collections and plan on delivering the baskets to the designated families in time for the Easter holiday.
The Shelton Community Lion’s Club is a newly chartered organization geared towards helping people who are vision impaired. Lion’s international, and therefore our club, also helps people with diabetes. We meet the first & third Monday of the month at the Shelton Community Center. Our meetings are open to the public and we are always looking for new members.
