Tuesday, May 24: Vegetarian Week, Bocce Games, Famous Birthdays
It's Tuesday Newsday! Here's some stuff goin' on around town

- Blustery day indeed. The National Weather Service predicts the following: A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after noon. Areas of fog before 9 a.m. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 78 degrees. Southwest wind between 6 and 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. At night, pretty much the same, with a low around 61.
- This week is National Vegetarian Week! Did you know that Shelton has its very own Farmers Market? It's tucked away downtown near Inline Plastics, in the free shopping parking lot at Canal Streer East and Cornell Street. It typically opens within the first few weeks of June, which is quickly approaching! Their products include various vegetables, including broccoli, bell pepper, tomato and squash, farm fresh eggs and organic herbs. Visit the Shelton Farmers Market this season and support local farmers. Go veg!
- A social and support group for expectant mothers, called "Mom to Mom" is meeting from 10 a.m. to noon at the Childbirth Center at Griffin Hospital (130 Division St. in Derby) to discuss topics relevant to new motherhood and includes an hour long play group for infants up to one year.
- Corporate Cup Bocce! Come to the Shelton Riverwalk from 5:39 - 8:30 p.m. for a game of "Open" Bocce. This game is played on a 91-by-13-foot court with eight large bocce balls and one small target ball called the "pallino". The object of the game is to roll the bocce ball closest to the pallino. Register here!
- Happy Birthday to Shelton natives Kyle Korwek and Rick DeRiso, who both turn 23 years old today. These two share a birthday with folk singer Bob Dylan, actor John C. Reilly and wife of "the king," Priscilla Presley.
