From the Valley Shakespeare Festival:
Valley Shakespeare Festival will present a free day of activities on Tuesday, May 3 at Shelton’s Plumb Memorial Library, beginning at 2 p.m. with “Afternoon Tea with the Queen.” Traditional afternoon tea fare will be served, and guests will be treated to a special musical performance by Mr. Gary Harger and Mr. Tom Simonetti. The two will sing selections from the Cole Porter musical, “Kiss Me, Kate,” by way of introducing VSF’s summer show, “The Taming of the Shrew.”
Next on the agenda, at 5 p.m., VSF will host a round of “Jester’s Jeopardy!” featuring Shelton School District’s new superintendent of schools, Chris Clouet, and fellow district administrators Elizabeth Hannaway, assistant director of support services/PPS, and Victoria White, supervisor of literacy, as the contestants. Pizza will also be served.

The last event of the day will begin at 7 p.m. with a full performance of VSF’s 2016 touring production, "Pericles, Prince of Tyre." The play will run approximately 90 minutes and will feature professional actors from Connecticut and New York. Pericles is an adventure yarn which follows the travels of the title character around the isles of Ancient Greece. During his journey, he discovers a terrible secret, saves a strange land from famine, marries a wife and has a child, only to lose them all (or so he believes). The public is invited to come and experience this tale of adventure, loss and redemption that is sure to leave guests smiling.
All of the events of the day are free and open to the public. No tickets or reservations are needed, and all are welcome to attend one or all activities. Valley Shakespeare Festival is holding this event in conjunction with The Great Give online nonprofit fundraising event, sponsored by the Greater New Haven Community Foundation and the Valley Community Foundation.
