Hey, it's hump day!

  1. Sorry, guys. More wet weather is predicted for today. The National Weather Service gives the following report: Rain. High near 50 degrees. East wind between 8 and 17 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible. At night, a 30 percent chance of showers with a low around 42.
  2. Hon. Fred J. Anthony, Judge of the and past-President of the Connecticut Probate Assembly, was appointed to the budget committee of the Assembly at its 2011 annual meeting.  Anthony was first elected Judge of the Shelton Probate Court in 1994, and has since been re-elected for consecutive terms. As Judge he presides over a variety of matters including decedent’s estates, conservatorships, guardianships, trusts, adoptions, and matters protecting abused and neglected children.
  3. Friends of the will be holding their annual Easter flower sale on Saturday, April 23, from 9-5 (or until flowers run out). They'll be at their usual location, next to the (392 River Road). This year, in addition to selling spring annuals, the group will also be selling fresh Oronoque Farms pies and gift certificates to buy Oronoque pies (if you'd prefer to get your own at another time). The money raised will be used to spay and neuter the dogs and cats in our community.
  4. There will be an "Exploring Space From Our Backyard" educational program at Derby Neck Library (307 Hawthorne Ave., Derby) from noon - 1 p.m. today. Kevin Manning, involved with NASA, will build a planisphere to study the constellations and also instruct on how to use binoculars and telescopes. The event is open to all.   5. The Shelton Land Conservation Trust Inc. is sponsoring a contest "What Earth Day in Shelton Means to Me" for Shelton residents in grade 7-12. Applicants must write at two pages about what Earth Day in Shelton means to them. 1st place prize $200, 2nd place $100, and 3rd place $50. Submit by April 22, 2011 to the SLCT at PO box 2276, Huntington Station Shelton, CT 06484. Winners will be announced during Land Trusts' May 11 meeting.
