Wednesday, April 27, 2011: Polish Paper Cutting, Health Fair, Holocaust Commemoration

Hey, it's hump day!

  1. The National Weather Service gives the following report for today: A chance of showers, mainly after 9 a.m. Patchy fog before 9 a.m. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 71. South wind between 8 and 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. For tonight, A chance of showers. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 60. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.
  2. In case you missed yesterday's article: There will be a health and informational fair for senior citizens at the Seymour community center today from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. All services, including eye exams, dental screenings, stroke evaluation, food, raffles and prizes are FREE. This is something you don't want to miss. 
  3. There will be a  class from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. at . Come learn all about the art of paper cutting and get a chance to create your own version of this traditional type of folk art. Attendees can try two styles and take their finished artwork home. This is reccomended for kids in grades 3 through adults.
  4. : Come hear Pierre Sauvage, child Holocaust survivor, Emmy Award-winning documentary filmmaker, and president of the Chambon Foundation as he presents, "A Time for Rescue: America and the Holocaust." Sauvage will discuss his film on Varian Fry, a former Fairfield University student who was the first American honored by Israel for helping to save Jews from the Nazis. This program is being held at in Fairfield at 7:30 p.m. It is free.
  5. Happy Birthday to Shelton native Chelsea Ibsen, who turns 22 today and is currently studying at the University of Connecticut. Chelsea shares a birthday with Fall Out Boy frontman Patrick Stump, civil rights activist Coretta Scott King and 18th U.S. President Ulysses S. Grant!
