Woman, 78, Robbed Of Car After Suspect Intentionally Struck Her Car: Shelton PD

SHELTON, CT — Police said two teens have been charged following an April incident in which they are accused of intentionally striking and stealing a woman’s vehicle.

At 7:15 p.m. on April 7, a 78-year-old Shelton woman finished her shopping at Big Y at 401 Bridgeport Ave.

"A vehicle waiting in the parking lot followed the victim out of the plaza," police said in a social media post. "A short period of time later on Independence Dr. the vehicle that followed her out of the parking lot intentionally struck her vehicle, encouraging her to get out and inspect the damage. When the woman got out of her vehicle, One of the occupants in the striking vehicle jumped in her vehicle and both vehicles drove off."

Shelton Police communicated with surrounding towns, and the New Haven Police Department stopped the vehicle a short time later, police said.

Devonte Beamon, 18, of New Haven, and a 16-year-old juvenile suspect were taken into custody for being in possession of the victim’s vehicle, police said. During the investigation, items purchased using the victim’s credit card were located inside the vehicle, police said.

The juvenile suspect was charged in connection to this incident on April 10 and referred to New Haven Juvenile Court, police said.

Follow-up investigation led to an arrest warrant being issued for Beamon for second-degree robbery, conspiracy to commit second-degree robbery, theft of a credit card, and conspiracy to commit theft of a credit card, police said.

Beamon was arrested on the warrant on Friday, police said. Beamon was placed on a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Derby Superior Court on June 26.
