Coyotes On The Loose In Simsbury: Police

Two dogs have been attacked by coyotes in Simsbury in recent days and police are urging caution.

SIMSBURY, CT — Nearby Avon residents have been on bear alert for weeks, with folks in Simsbury now being warned about another sharp-toothed animal on the loose.

Simsbury police Friday urged folks to use caution while walking with or without the dogs near the blue and yellow trails at the Town of Simsbury's conservation area.

That's because coyotes are on the loose in Simsbury, with two reported coyote attacks on dogs in that area, according to police.

Specifically, Simsbury police said caution should be exercised between Town Forest Road and the Ethel Walker School property on Bushy Hill Road.

Police said the dogs survived their coyote aggressors, but they were injured.

"There have been reports of coyotes throughout town. Some have displayed stalking behavior," wrote police Friday.

"Tragically, two small dogs were attacked and taken by coyotes, both dogs at the time were by the edge of the wood line when the attacks occurred (Wildwood Road and Castlewood Road)."

Police said they're working with the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection to monitor the situation and urges folks to be careful.
