To prepare, the town offers the following tips:
• Remove all lights and ornaments before disposing of the tree.
• To reduce the chance of trees becoming frozen to the ground or buried in snow, put your tree out no earlier than the night before, but no later than 6 a.m. on the trash collection day.
• Place your tree next to the trash barrel and leave the barrel curbside (even if it has been emptied already) until the tree is collected.
The barrel serves as a marker for which hauler should pick up your tree, as this service may not be completed by the normal driver.
• Condominium and association residents should check with their associations or management companies, as these collections will vary.
During January, Simsbury residents may drop off their live tree (free of lights and ornaments) at the Simsbury Landfill and Recycling Center at 66 Wolcott Road for no fee.
The facility is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
