Technology Talk for Parents in the Community; The Digital Lives of Teens and Tweens

If you're a parent of a tween or teen chances are you struggle with how best to manage technology in their lives. With the widespread use of cell phones and platforms like Facebook and Twitter, and the internet in general, how can you make sure your child is interacting in a safe and productive way? To help parents navigate these questions, The Ethel Walker School is hosting a technology talk for parents in the community April 24 from 7-8:30pm. The event will be on the school’s campus and is open to the public. Focused on learning and discussion, the night's goal is to showcase how important it is to educate, protect, and empower young girls today within the realm of technology. The discussion will be led by Sarah Edson, Academic Technology Analyst at The Ethel Walker School, and Brooke Haynes, a teacher at The Ethel Walker School.

Since its start 100 years ago, the school has been committed to understanding how girls learn best in order to provide them with an education that will challenge, support, and prepare them to make a difference in the world. "At Walker's, we maintain this commitment and remain dedicated to exploring the most effective teaching methods and resources that are available today to help girls learn not just for school but for life," says Sarah Edson.

The forum was designed to educate parents and also foster discussion around technology’s intersection with the classroom and beyond. The event will focus on today’s learning landscape and the role of technology in this, the skills that should be nurtured in today's students and how technology can support that, and the challenges that new technologies pose but also the steps educators and parents can take to protect young girls.
