Simsbury FD Images Show Condo Fire's Intensity: UPDATE

The American Red Cross is helping several adults and children in connection with the Thursday morning blaze, with a GoFundMe also set up.

SIMSBURY, CT — The Simsbury Volunteer Fire Co. has released more information related to an intense condominium complex fire that displaced several residents on Thursday.

According to the SVFC, firefighters were called at about 8 a.m. to Simsbury Landing to a report of a fire on the rear deck of a condo complex.

"The first arriving officer confirmed a working fire, initiating a 2nd Alarm, and swiftly evacuated all the occupants within the fire building," wrote the SVFC. "The fire had extended into the attic space above the unit."

Despite intense flames and smoke, crews were able to quickly knock down the bulk of the fire with the deployment of multiple hose lines and both aerial ladders in place for roof operations, wrote the SVFC.

Units assisting were the SVFC Auxiliary and Simsbury EMS.

Mutual aid units at the scene included the Avon Volunteer Fire Department and the Bloomfield Fire Department, while the Canton Volunteer Fire Department and Farmington Fire Department provided station coverage for the town.

"No injuries were reported," wrote the SVFC. "The cause of the fire is under investigation by Simsbury FMO."

Meanwhile, the local Red Cross said is helping nine families impacted by the fire.

According to the American Red Cross, 10 adults and five children were displaced.

One of the families that lost their home is the subject of a GoFundMe campaign to help them recover.

"The Red Cross provided assistance to meet the families' immediate needs," wrote the Red Cross on Thursday afternoon.

"The Red Cross also provided a recovery envelope containing information helpful to families recovering from a fire, including tips on cleanup; notification of important contacts; dealing with damaged items, and more."
