HARTFORD-TOLLAND COUNTIES, CT — Following an epic Class LL championship game battle between Hamden and Sacred Heart Academy, it seems appropriate that those two were the top vote-getters in the final girls basketball poll of the 2023-24 season. Back-to-back champion Hamden claimed all 17 first-place votes.

Spots 3 through 9 have a decidedly northern look about them, as six of the next seven teams are from schools in Hartford County. That list is topped by Simsbury (third), which won the Class L title for the first time in school history. Class MM champion Northwest Catholic was fourth, Conard wound up sixth and Class M winner St. Paul of Bristol was seventh.

Throw in the Class S championship won by Somers (13th in the final balloting), and four of the five state crowns were claimed by "northern schools."
