Labor Day In Simsbury, What's Closed?

SIMSBURY, CT — With summer's unofficial end coming this weekend, folks have one more day of relaxation on Monday, Sept. 1, Labor Day.

And, because of that, the Town of Simsbury has announced impacts to municipal services due to the holiday. Among them:

• All Simsbury town offices are closed, including those at Simsbury Town Hall.

• The Simsbury Public Library is closed.

• All Simsbury public schools are closed.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, Labor Day is observed on the first Monday in September.

It is an "annual celebration of the social and economic achievements of American workers," wrote federal authorities.

"The holiday is rooted in the late 19th century, when labor activists pushed for a federal holiday to recognize the many contributions workers have made to America’s strength, prosperity, and well-being," wrote federal officials.
