Pepper Spray Attack Probed In Simsbury: Police

The incident happened late Saturday night at a local parking lot.

SIMSBURY, CT — Local police are looking for the suspect believed responsible for deploying a pepper spray device in a Simsbury parking lot Saturday night, July 5.

According to the Simsbury Police Department, the incident happened at about 11:22 p.m. at a shopping plaza at 1187 Hopmeadow St., Simsbury.

Police said they received an emergency 911 call claiming "an unknown person had just deployed some type of pepper spray."

"The caller reported that an adult male wearing a face mask exited a dark SUV in the rear parking area and deployed a pepper spray-type device," wrote the SPD in a release issued Monday morning. "The suspect then left in the dark SUV in an unknown direction."

Police said one person in the area was minimally affected by the effects of the pepper spray drifting in the wind.

Pepper spray is a non-lethal weapon frequently used to fend off attackers and is used by law enforcement to subdue suspects.
