Simsbury Concert Venue Breaks Ground On Major Expansion

SIMSBURY, CT — The Simsbury Meadows Performing Arts Center broke ground last week on a major expansion project that promises to help it attract top talent for major events in the future.

Called the "Next Act Expansion Project," officials with the center called it a "transformative initiative that will enhance the venue’s role as a premier destination for arts, culture, and community in Greater Hartford and beyond."

The groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, Sept. 19, brought together Lt. Gov. Susan Bysiewicz, State Rep. Melissa Osborne, D-Simsbury, Simsbury First Selectman Wendy Mackstutis, local and state officials, business leaders, philanthropic partners, and community members.

“This expansion is about much more than bricks and mortar,” said Allie Young, executive director of Simsbury Meadows. “It’s about investing in a shared vision for the future of the arts, strengthening our community, and creating opportunities for everyone to experience the joy and connection that the arts bring.”

Osborne and Mackstutis both supported the project, helping to secure support at the local and state levels.

Bysiewicz praised the expansion. “This project is going to help all the businesses, it’s going to help tourism, and bring more people to our state,” said Bysiewicz.

The Next Act Expansion Project is designed to add amenities and improve infrastructure, further
positioning Simsbury Meadows as a cultural and economic engine for the region.

The project reflects years of planning, collaboration, and generous support from donors and public funding sources.

Highlights of the project include: green rooms for visiting artists, multiple-purpose rooms, and office
space for staff. Simsbury Meadows.

The venue draws more than 40,000 attendees annually and is one of the largest outdoor
performing arts venues in Connecticut.
