SIMSBURY, CT — The polls have closed in Simsbury and the votes are being counted to determine numerous key races on the board of selectmen, board of finance, and school board.

The biggest race of the night featured a battle for the first selectman post, with Democratic incumbent Wendy Mackstutis taking on Republican challenger Kevin Beal.

First Selectman (vote for one)

Democrat: Wendy Mackstutis (inc.)

Republican: Kevin Beal

UPDATE: Mackstutis defeated Beal with nearly 60 percent of the vote, according to the Connecticut Secretary of the State's office.

Democratic candidates are: Diana Yeisley, Steven Antonio and Curtis Looney.

Republican candidates are: Heather Goetz, Suki Shergill-Connelly and Jackie Battos.

Board of Finance - full term (vote for two)

Democratic candidates are: Lisa Heavner.

Republican candidates are: Angel Goldman and Art Wallace.

Board of Finance - two-year vacancy (vote for one)

Democrat Todd Burrick is running unopposed.

Board of Education (vote for two)

Democratic candidates are: Jeff Tindall and Jessica Parise.

Republican candidates are: Jen Batchelar and Josh Falco.

Board of Assessment Appeals (vote for two)

Democratic candidates are: Regina K. Pynn and Josh Michelson.

Republican candidates are: none.

Planning Commission - full term (vote for three)

The Democratic candidates are: Erin Leavitt-Smith and Holly Beum.

The Republican candidates are: Craig MacCormac and William Rice.

Planning Commission- two-year vacancy (vote for one)

No candidates from either party.

The Democratic candidates are: Nicholas Criscitelli and Marcus Furze.
