Simsbury Elementary Schoolers Win Robotics Competition
Students from St. Mary's School in Simsbury tied for first place in a recent VEX robotics contest attended by schools statewide.

SIMSBURY, CT — Students at St. Mary's School in Simsbury recently tied for first place in a robotics competition attended by over 120 elementary school students.
Twelve Catholic elementary schools sent their robotics teams to the VEX Robotics Competition, which was hosted by the Archdiocese of Hartford's Center for Catholic Education and Formation on April 30.
After 36 student-built robots competed, St. Mary's School and St. Bridget School of Cheshire (the school that hosted the competition) tied for first place.

Other schools in attendance include St. Paul Catholic School in Kensington, St. James School in Manchester and Corpus Christi School in Wethersfield.
VEX Robotics competitions are designed to let students question, tinker, experiment and play, officials said.

And they increase students' interest in science, technology, engineering and math subject areas — 95 percent of participants reported an increased interest in STEM subject areas and pursuing STEM-related careers, according to a news release.
