Simsbury Police Update Homicide Investigation

A 54-year-old mother of two was killed in November while out jogging. A reward is now being offered.

On Thursday morning, Simsbury Police Chief Peter N. Ingvertsen gave the community an update on the homicide investigation the department has been working since November.

A $40,000 reward has been offered for information into 54-year-old Melissa Millan’s death. Ingvertsen said the money came from an anonymous source.

“While the police department is still working on a number of active leads, the reward is being offered to ensure that every possible legitimate lead is identified,” said Ingvertsen.

Ingvertsen also said that the department has some physical evidence from the crime scene that will help it to identify the person or persons responsible for her death. He declined to speak on what kind of evidence it is.

He also said that Millan, a mother of two, was stabbed with an “edge instrument,” which is similar to a knife. There are no suspects at the moment and the department is following leads while looking for other leads. The FBI and other state agencies are also involved in the investigation.

Despite the attacker still being at large, Ingvertsen and First Selectman Lisa Heavner said this was an isolated incident and that the people in Simsbury are safe.

“This is an isolated act, not common at all to this community,” said Ingvertsen. “Simsbury is safe and we suggest that you take normal day to day precautions.”
