The agreement expands upon the town’s longstanding partnership with SPAC and assures the Performing Arts Center will continue to be the premiere outdoor venue in the region for music, theater, and community events.
The agreement aligns with the current public-private collaboration among the state, the town, and SPAC of the planned multi-million-dollar expansion of the venue, which Simsbury residents overwhelmingly supported at a referendum recently.
“This agreement reaffirms that SPAC will continue its responsibility for day-to-day operations and exceptional programming, while the town will provide ongoing support and maintenance of the facility, working together to ensure the venue’s growth and success for years to come,” said Selectman Diana Yeisley in a statement.
“The Simsbury Performing Arts Center is a cornerstone of our arts community, and this partnership underscores our deep understanding that Simsbury realizes a significant return on investment in the arts as a driver of economic growth and an improved quality of life for our citizens”, added Simsbury Selectman Kevin Beal.
Jeff Dornenbur, chairman of the SPAC board, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership.
“The town’s support of our NextAct project and this long-term partnership allows us to build on our tremendous successes. We will be able to offer even more diverse and inclusive programming and make the Performing Arts Center an even more inviting space for everyone,” he said.
Simsbury First Selectman Wendy Mackstutis said “I want to thank Simsbury Town Manager Marc Nelson, our entire board of selectmen, and others who made this happen. The Town and the State of Connecticut have both committed significant funding towards the planned upgrades at the facility, and I want to thank the board of directors of SPAC for their service to the arts in our community.”
