Weather Causing Problems Throughout Simsbury

Trees down, roads closed and motorists urged to stay off streets.

SIMSBURY, CT — Simsbury appears to be suffering from some significant storm damage Friday morning, according to the town's public works department Twitter feed.

As of 7:10 a.m., more than 40 percent of the town was without power, according to Eversource Energy, with 4,616 customers sans electricity.

According to Simsbury DPW at about 6:42 a.m., heavy winds have taken down several trees resulting in multiple road closures.

Among the roads impacted, local officials report, are Bushy Hill, Hopmeadow and County roads.

Simsbury DPW said both public works and emergency management officials are responding and they're asking folks to stay off the roads if possible.

Meanwhile, the state Department of Transportation this morning has announced two road closures in Simsbury due to the weather.

According to the DOT, Route 10 is closed at Hazel Meadow Road because of a tree down in the wires, as reported at 7:07 a.m.

Meanwhile, the DOT is also reporting that Route 167 is closed at Hickory Hill Road due to a tree in the wires, as reported at 7:10 a.m.

It is still "unknown" when those areas will be cleared, according to the DOT.
