How did you come up with the name?
Sylvia's Colour & Design hair salon has been in business 15 years. We decided to expand and offer a high-end nail salon Featuring LCN nails, which are Light Concept Nails.

Why choose that location? Why start a business in this town?
Sylvia's Hair has been in business over 15 years. Our clients have been asking for a high-end nail salon in the area for a while.

When the space next to us became vacant we decided now was the time. I have live in Southbury over 30 years and love having a business in this town.

Briefly, what business are you in?
Salon hair and nails.

What's the most difficult moment or challenge you've faced as a business owner?
The most difficult decision has definitely been the decision to expand. We have really listened to the community and our clients to be able to bring them a nail salon that they will feel comfortable in.

Were there any challenges that made you second guess your decision to be an entrepreneur?

No.

What's been your favorite moment or proudest achievement since opening?
Watching our salon grow and change over the years! Having clients in the salon that have been with us since we opened and meeting so many new clients is great. Also having our salon featured in National Hair magazines for our work is a great feeling.

What's the most innovative idea your employees or customers have had that you put into practice?

My clients have been asking for a high-end nail salon for years. I finally decided to go for it. Our new nail salon will focus on sanitization due to our clients voicing concerns over this area.

How do you deal with difficult customers?
Our customer service policy ensures all of our clients are very happy. We call or email new clients within 2 days of their appointment.

If they have any concerns regarding their hair we bring them back in and make adjustments free of charge.

How does your business give back or get involved in the community?
We have participated in Luck for Tuck fundraiser at PHS and raised over 1,200.00. We have also had Locks for Love benefits. We also have had many events to support the Southbury Needy fund. Sylvia's also donates gift certificates to the local charities.
