Attempted Crime Spree Foiled By Southbury Police

Southbury Police stepped in to thwart a number of attempted vehicle break-ins on Monday.

SOUTHBURY, CT — Police foiled a flash crime spree of attempted vehicle break-ins on Monday.

The Southbury Police Department was first alerted to the shenanigans at approximately 2:45 p.m. and officers converged in the area of Southbury Plaza. Shortly after, police were alerted to attempted vehicle break-ins at River Glen Healthcare Center on South Britain Road.

Only a few minutes later, according to their report, police were contacted by a Horse Fence Hill Road resident regarding a vehicle abandoned in their driveway. Police again converged on the area, locating and arresting three juvenile suspects.

The suspects were in possession of burglary tools, according to police, and matched descriptions given to law enforcement.

Police later learned the vehicle abandoned on Horse Fence Hill Road had been stolen, and made arrangements to return it to its owner.

The three juveniles were remanded into custody and transported to Bridgeport Juvenile Detention Center. One was charged and released on a court summons, according to police. Two of the suspects were charged with possession of burglary tools, another was charged with assault on a police officer.

Two adults were also processed; one was released on a surety bond, and one was held and taken to York Correctional Center. Manuel Diaz, 18, and Maria Delacruz, 18, both of New York, were charged with second-degree larceny, criminal trover, second degree criminal mischief, and second-degree criminal attempt at larceny.
