SOUTHBURY, CT — Sustainable Southbury, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and two of its business partners, the Center for Ecotechnology (CET) and EyeRecycle, awarded Andy Adames of Señor Pancho’s with a Certificate of Appreciation for his participation in the Sustainable Southbury Food Scraps Commercial Recycling Program. Señor Pancho’s is the latest restaurant to take advantage of Sustainable Southbury and its partners’ initiatives to improve the sustainability of local businesses by implementing solutions to reduce or recycle food waste and reducing contamination in recycling.

In addition to awarding the certificate to Mr. Adames, Chuck Litty and Joyce Schroeder from Sustainable Southbury, Lisa Pellegrino from CET and Mike Stallings from EyeRecycle met with Chef Francisco Tepi to discuss best practices for food scrap recycling.

Andy Adames expressed his satisfaction with this initiative by saying, “A big part of Señor Pancho’s being around for 34 years is our desire to do the right thing. Working with Sustainable Southbury, CET, and EyeRecycle is a good thing for the environment and it’s also good for my staff to learn these things. I was concerned that their recommendations would be hard to implement because of our busy kitchen but the whole process has been a lot easier than I thought.“

Any food-based business that is interested in taking advantage of the Sustainable Southbury Food Scraps Commercial Recycling Program should contact Chuck Litty at clitty@sustainablesouthbury.org. For more information about Sustainable Southbury visit the website at www.sustainablesouthbury.org.
