After Hitting Building, Driver Cited by Southington Police
The driver is accused of hitting a Main Street hair salon and leaving the scene.

Southington Police report an unlicensed driver struck a Main Street building early Monday and left the scene of the crash.
It was about 1:10 a.m. Dec. 7 when officers were dispatched to the Hair Expo salon at 410 Main St. on a report of an evading motor vehicle accident with the vehicle striking a building, according to police.
Police said their investigation showed that a 1997 Acura operated by Tyrone Phoenix was northbound on Main Street when the vehicle left the travel portion of the roadway and struck the building. After the impact, the vehicle continued north on Main Street and was later located by officers in the Southington Library parking lot, police said.

The Hair Expo “building sustained heavy damage as a result of the accident. The vehicle was found to be unregistered, uninsured and that Phoenix did not have a valid license,” police said. The Southington Fire Department and Town of Southington Building Department officials also responded to the scene.
Phoenix, 23, of Waterbury, was issued a misdemeanor summons on charges of Failure to Drive Right, Evading Responsibility, Misuse of Plates, Operating an Unregistered Motor Vehicle, Failure to Insure a Motor Vehicle and Operating without a License, according to police. Phoenix was released and given an appearance date of Dec. 21.
