After Three Decades, Beloved Cop Says 'Goodbye' To Southington: Police

The veteran police detective who also served as a mentor for Southington's youth officially retired from service last week.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A beloved law enforcer with the Southington Police Department who has more than three decades of experience officially said goodbye last week.

SPD Det. Karen Apicella has been with the department for 31 years, the SPD wrote this week, and she officially retired on Friday, June 6.

The local law enforcement community thanked her for her service and posted images of Apicella enjoying her retirement cake.

"Please join us as a community in recognizing Detective Apicella in her 31 years of service within the Southington Police Detective Bureau and Department," wrote the SPD.

"Detective Apicella poured into her dedicated work related to crimes against children and investigations involving sex crimes."

The SPD said Apicella has also been a committed mentor and leader for the Southington Police Explorer program over the last 20 years.

"Collectively, as an agency, we would like to send Detective Apicella well wishes in retirement," wrote the SPD.
