Agile Tween Gymnast Flipping For Backpacks In Southington

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A local 11-year-old gymnast can do backflips all day if she has to.

It's not a problem for young Evelyn Rose, an accomplished young gymnast who has garnered her fair share of trophies statewide.

And that's exactly what she will be doing at her annual "Backflips For Backpacks" school supply drive this Saturday, Aug. 16, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Southington Town Green on North Main Street.

If you bring a backpack, she will do a backflip for you — and she doesn't mind if she has to flip throughout the three hours.

Proceeds go to Southington Community Services, which will distribute them to Southington clients just in time for back-to-school later this month.

Other items on Rose's wish list are crayons, markers, colored pencils, notebooks, backpacks (Large), glue sticks, black dry erase markers, pencil cases, mechanical pencils, and red pens (or others too).

While all items will make Rose happy, it is the backpacks that she will flip for.

This is the third straight year Rose has done the event, each one growing more and more in stature.

The event even has its very own website.

Should the weather not cooperate on Saturday, the event will take place at the same time and place on Sunday, Aug. 17.
