The Arc of Southington is bringing back its Car, Truck & Bike show, Sept. 18 at the Southington Drive-In, with proceeds supporting the organization’s mission to assist those with intellectual disabilities and their families.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Drive-In at 995 Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike. It is open for people to bring their cars, trucks and bikes of all makes, models and years. Trophies will be awarded for multiple categories including “best in show” for cars, trucks and bikes. There will also be vendors selling crafts and other homemade items, food from LaFortuna Restaurant of Wolcott, raffles with prizes offered by local businesses.
Amanda Clair, outreach coordinator with The Arc of Southington, said the show was canceled last year due to covid-19 but “went well” during its first year in 2019, attracting 100 vehicles. Owners sat next to their vehicles and chatted with spectators as they walked around, taking in the sights.

“A lot of our fundraisers were canceled due to the pandemic – the only one we did was our golf tournament in May,” Clair said. “This is our second community event of the year. It’s going to be a fun, family outdoor outing. Proceeds will go to all of our programs that support individuals with disabilities.”
The Arc of Southington began as a support group and volunteer organization and later evolved into a human service agency. According to The Arc of Southington’s website, the agency “provides advocacy, education, information and referral, and an array of quality and individualized services and supports to people with intellectual disabilities, and their families.”
Admission is $10 for those who wish to bring their car, bike or truck to the show. Free admission is being offered to all who wish to come in and look around.
