Beloved Firefighting Veteran Retires From Southington FD

The longtime member of the Southington Fire Department has been a battalion chief since 2022.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — The Southington Fire Department last weekend said goodbye to a longtime firefighter and leader, who officially retired from the SFD.

SFD Battalion Chief Richard Jones hung up his fire hat on Saturday morning, March 31, ending a long firefighting career.

The department posted a congratulatory message on its Facebook page.

"Throughout his 25-year career, he has been a pillar of strength, leadership, and integrity—leaving a profound impact on both the department and the community he served so faithfully," wrote the SFD.

Jones was promoted to battalion chief at the hybrid department (paid and volunteer) back in 2022.
