Did Washington Sleep In Southington? Find Out At Library Program
The Southington Public Library is hosting a special program exploring Southington's Revolutionary War history.
SOUTHINGTON, CT — Next year, America is celebrating its 250th birthday and the events are already being planned.
One such event takes place at the Southington Public Library, 239 Main St., Southington, on Monday, June 30, at 6 p.m., when the public is invited to come learn about Southington's role in the American Revolution.
Called "The Road to 1776: Southington and the American Revolution," the program will be hosted by Barnes Museum curator Christina Volpe.

She will give a special lecture on Southington’s Revolutionary War history.
"Discover the story of the French troops who camped here in June 1781, the town’s role in the fight for liberty, and the lingering question....did George Washington really stay in Southington?" reads an event announcement.

"Explore local legends, familiar landscapes, and the powerful ways our community was connected to the road to 1776."
The event is free, and no registration is required, though a $10 donation is suggested to support the ongoing preservation of the Barnes Museum.
In addition, copies of "The Barnes Museum and Homestead" by Volpe will be for sale for $25 cash, check, or online. All proceeds support the Friends of the Barnes Museum.
