Man Caught In Southington Accused Of Stealing Mercedes, Faces Other Charges In Canton: Police
The 41-year-old Mass. man had several warrants for his arrest, including from the Canton Police Department.

SOUTHINGTON/CANTON, CT — Local police took a Massachusetts man into custody after they said he was driving a stolen Mercedes van in Southington, with the suspect also facing charges in Canton.
The Southington Police Department said Tuesday that Stephen Oldham, 41, of Middleboro, Mass., was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle and criminal impersonation on Friday, Oct. 24.
Oldham was also booked and processed for three outstanding warrants with the Canton Police Department.

In total, Oldham was held on cash or surety bonds totaling $500,000 and was scheduled to appear in New Britain Superior Court on Monday, where his cases in Southington were continued to Dec. 15.
Meanwhile, online court records indicate the Canton Police Department on Monday charged Oldham with interfering with an officer/resisting arrest, failure to obey a stop sign, failure to renew registration, refusal to show license/registration, and operating a motor vehicle without a license.

He will appear in court on Friday, Oct. 31, to face a judge regarding the Canton charges.
According to the Southington PD, at about 5:12 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, the department received a LPR Flock alert for a stolen Mercedes Sprinter Van that had entered the Town of Southington.
Police said patrol officers located the vehicle traveling southbound on North Main Street, before it turned into the parking lot of Stop & Shop, 505 N. Main St.
The vehicle proceeded to park in the parking lot of the establishment and officers made contact with its operator as he began exiting the vehicle, the SPD said.
The operator, later identified as Oldham, was taken into custody without further incident.
Police said Oldham initially provided the investigating Officers with a false name and date of birth.
Further investigation revealed Oldham had three active hard-copy arrest warrants from other police agencies within the State of Connecticut.
Oldham also had three active PRAWN Warrants within the State of Connecticut, along with seven non-extraditable arrest warrants out of Massachusetts.
Police said the vehicle Oldham was operating, a 2011 Mercedes Sprinter Van, was confirmed to have been stolen out of Middleboro, Mass.
