Growing Healthy Food Chain To Open Eatery In Southington

The fast-growing chain specializing in acai bowls and smoothies will have a grand opening celebration this weekend.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — One of the town's newest spots to get a healthy meal will have a grand opening celebration this weekend.

Playa Bowls, which specializes in smoothies and acai bowls, will host a grand opening ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 20.

The shop, located at 750 Queen St., Southington, opens at 11 a.m. that day with the first 50 customers getting a free bowl and a free, custom T-shirt.

On Play Bowls' Southington website, there are myriad other giveaways and offers posted.

The New Jersey-based chain was founded in 2014 by surfing friends Robert Giuliani and Abby Taylor, who frequently went on worldwide surfing vacations.

The acai-based cuisine they noticed while traveling the world inspired them to open their business, which has now grown to 300 shops nationally.

Playa's fruit and nut-based bowls, among others, are tasty and healthy, according to the company.
