New Housing Complex Pitched In Southington

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A major housing development that would add 40 new units is on the Southington Planning and Zoning Commission's docket, with a hearing and possible action planned for next week.

The project was on the agenda on Sept. 3, but the PZC opted to table it at the request of the applicants, with no final action being taken.

Both will be reconsidered at the Tuesday, Sept. 17, Southington PZC meeting, slated for 7 p.m. at the John Weichsel Municipal Center, 196 N. Main St.

The plan is being pitched by Lovley Development Inc. out of Plantsville to build both age-restricted and traditional housing units at 347, 349 Marion Ave., as well as a portion of 153 Pine St.

The developer is seeking both a special permit and a site plan approval from the town's PZC, with Southington PZC Chairman Robert Hammarsley opening the hearing on Sept. 3.

No one commented on the project at that time and Hammarsley tabled the hearing to Sept. 17 as requested by the applicant.

According to the latest plans submitted to the town, the project would be called Braemar Estates and feature about 40 total units on cul-de-sacs to be built there.

Of the 40 units, 27 would be age-restricted (no children allowed) and 13 units would allow children, with 20 being the number estimated by the developers.

The application would require two separate votes for the special permit and the site plan.
