The Plymouth Volunteer Ambulance Corps (PVAC) has honored local police officer Christopher Latimer with January's PVAC Proud Award.
The award is presented monthly to individuals or organizations, nominated by the community, that go "above and beyond" to help the town.

Officer Latimer was nominated by both PVAC Chief of Service Brandon Johndro and Assistant Chief Norm Whitehurst.
"I can't say enough about Officer Latimer," said Johndro. "He is the first one through the door on a medical assist and the last one to leave. Officer Latimer serves his community every day and served his country for many years prior during his time in the U.S. Marines. I can't think of a more deserving recipient for this month's PVAC proud award. It's my pleasure to not only work with Officer Latimer when he helps us on medicals but to have the privilege of calling him my friend. Thank you for all you do, Officer Latimer."
Latimer was also recognized this month for his quick action as a first responder, performing abdominal thrusts and saving a life. The PVAC Proud award was presented to Latimer by Police Chief Karen Krasicky.
The Truman Gustafson PVAC Proud award is named after Truman Gustafson, who was one of the founders of PVAC when it was established in 1968. The board of directors meets to decide the recipient from among nominees.
Bonnie Doughty-Jenkins, PVAC Board President, said anyone can nominate someone for this award. In December, the PVAC Proud Award was presented to Nico Florenciani, from Nico's Nuggets and Luke Koser from Luke's Cukes in recognition of their community fundraising efforts.
"If there is a member, crew, etc. that you feel has gone 'above and beyond' or a citizen or business that has shown a spirit of assisting and helping the community, please contact myself or any Board of Directors member," she said. "I can be reached by writing to me in care of PVAC 191 Main St, Terryville, CT."
