Police Searching for Driver of Early Morning Rollover

Officers said a car lost control and flipped over, hitting a utility pole on West Street near the intersection of Ridge Drive, but the driver fled on foot and detectives are continuing to investigate.

Editor's Note: This version corrects the intersecting road. It is Ridge Drive, according to police.

An early Thursday accident on West Street has local police searching for the driver of a car that flipped over and cause considerable damage to a utility pole in the area, according to Southington police.

Sgt. Jeffrey Dobratz said the department is continuing to actively seek the driver of the car, which appeared to collide with a utility pole at 300 West Street, near the intersection of Ridge Drive, before the driver then fled the area on foot.

“A witness indicated that the driver took off running,” Dobratz said. “A K9 unit was called to try and track the individual, but the search turned up no leads.”

The accident led police and fire crews to secure the scene as Connecticut Light and Power officials worked to replace the pole overnight and into Thursday morning. Dobratz said an active investigation is continuing and police are following leads.

“Officers are reaching out to the owner of the vehicle to obtain more information,” he said.
