Southington 2015 Election Guide: The Candidates, Polling Places, Sample Ballot

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3 and we share with you some of the information you'll need to know.

There are 24,306 Southington residents eligible to vote on Election Day.

In addition to choosing the nine members who comprise the Town Council, voters also will be deciding ballot questions on two major spending referendums.

Voters must decide whether to spend $2 million on the acquisition of land for open space. There also is a bonding question on whether to spend $9.4 million to design and build the Calendar House Senior Citizen Center, and demolish the current center.

Town Council

Republicans currently hold six of the nine council seats and there are five incumbents running for reelection. Voters can choose six candidates.

Republican incumbents seeking reelection are Town Council Chairman Michael Riccio, Vice Chairwoman Cheryl Lounsbury, Paul Champagne, Victoria Triano and Tom Lombardi. Former council chairman Edward Pocock III, also is running.

The Democratic incumbents are Chris Palmieri, John Barry and Dawn Miceli. The challengers are Chris Robertson, Steve Leggett and Anthony D’Angelo, a former council vice chairman.

Board of Education

Voters can select any six candidates.
Democrat incumbents are Dave J. Derynoski, Patricia P. Johnson and Zaya G. Oshana Jr. Challengers include Bob Brown, Joseph A. DelDebbio and Susan M. Locks. Republican candidates are incumbents Juanita Champagne, Terri Carmody, Terry G. Lombardi, Patricia Queen, Brian S. Goralski and Colleen Clark.

Board of Finance

Voters can select any four candidates.

Democrat candidates are incumbents Kevin R. Beaudoin and Sandra E. Feld, and challengers John P. Moise and Stephen Theriault. Republican candidates are James Coleman, Joseph Labieniec, Edward Pocock Jr. and John Leary III.

Planning and Zoning Commission

Voters can select any three candidates.

Democrat candidates are Theodore Cabata, Kevin Clements and James Sinclair. The Republican candidates are James Morelli, James Macchio and Jennifer Clock.

Water Commission

Voters can select three candidates.

Democrat incumbent Robert M. Berkmoes is seeking reelection. The Republican candidates are Ericke Pocock and Michael Domian.
