Southington Officials Warn Residents of Ice Risks

After a teen fell through thin ice over the weekend, fire officials issue warning.

After a 14-year-old girl was rescued after falling through the ice on a local pond, Southington fire officials are warning residents about the risks of thin ice.

Officials say residents should refrain from using non-designated areas for recreational activities and that at least three inches of ice is needed to support any activities, according to The Record-Journal.

The girl was rescued by Southington firefighters on Saturday afternoon after she fell through the ice into waist-deep water of a pond on Meriden Road.
